Solid carbide router bits are used extensively in CNC machines but can be used for other routing applications. Solid carbide router bits are more brittle than high-speed steel and are not guaranteed against breakage. Router bit speed and feed rate can be controlled much better on a CNC machine to prevent breakage. These router bits are great for long router bit runs and can last 10 to 20 times longer than a normal high-speed steel router bit. Being made of solid carbide, the cost is higher than a normal carbide-tipped router bit. Router bit profiles are limited with this router bit family. The main router bit types are the spiral upcut router bit, spiral downcut router bit, ball nose upcut router bit, flush trim router bit, spiral flush trim router bit (with and without bearing), straight cut flush trim router bit, straight cut bevel flush trim router bit, and flat bottom veining router bit.
